It is our belief that every human being has the right to a long, healthy
and fulfilling life, we have developed a day center for the elderly who are so
isolated and have little hope, allowing them to experience the beauty of aging.
RasaritDayCenter for the Elderly provides a public kitchen for a hot meal, offers
laundry services, and bathing facilities. The center also provides social and
educational activities.
Approximately 30 elderly come to the center a day to spend time
together. A range of activities are offered such as viewing television, indoor
games, handicrafts, music, sports and physical exercise, entertainment
programs, competitions, and performances. They can also take part in various
interest clubs such as English language club, chess, knitting, humor, and
poetry.
Rasarit Day Center for the Elderly began in
2003, in the town of
Straseni, 25 k, away from
Chisinau, the capital of
Moldova. Rasarit means sunrise.
It aims to serve the elderly, the most vulnerable category of the
population, and specifically those who are along, sick or physically disabled,
and cannot cater for themselves.
The center assists over
300 elderly a year, and the number of beneficiaries served has increased
steadily over the past five years.
Spectru Assisted
LivingCenter
Next to
RasaritDayCenter
for the Eldery stands
Spectru AssistedLivingCenter. Spectru, which means rainbow, is a home
for people who are no longer able to care for themselves. A staff of trained
medical assistants provide 24 hour care and the following services: housing,
meals, laundry, bath, medical assistance, massage, and social activities.
At the
moment all the places in Spectru are filled and there is a waiting list for
people who would like to live here.
Spectru offers a cozy atmosphere for 20 elderly residents and provides
the following services. Ten placements are determined and sponsored by the
government and have been placed in our center by a social worker. Commercial
places are paid by the family of the elderly, and in this way partly support
the project’s sustainability.
Home Care
In
December 2006 Neohumanist began the Home Care Program with the assistance of
international donors. Home Care provides social and medical assistance and food
delivery to people that are home-bound in the 15 villages within the region of Straseni.
